Anchor Text
Anchor text is the visible, clickable words that make up a link, the part usually shown underlined and in a different colour. Both people and search engines read it as a clue about what the linked page is about, so describing the destination beats a vague label.
It is like the wording on a signpost: a clear label naming where a path leads helps far more than an arrow that just says this way. Anchor text matters because clear, honest link wording helps visitors know where they are going and gives search engines a small hint about the linked page, improving both usability and findability.
