Consensus Mechanism

A consensus mechanism is the agreed method a blockchain network uses to get many independent computers to accept the same single version of the records, even though no one is in charge. It is how they collectively decide which new transactions are valid and in what order they happened.

It is like a large committee following a strict, well-known voting rule so a room full of strangers can still reach one binding decision. A consensus mechanism matters because it is what lets a network with no central authority stay trustworthy and hard to cheat, which is the core idea behind a blockchain.
