Workflow
A workflow is the defined sequence of steps that a piece of work moves through from start to finish, and who does each one. Writing it down turns a vague understanding of how things get done into a clear, repeatable path, such as how a quote becomes an order becomes a delivery.
It is like a relay race with a set order of runners and clean handovers, so the baton is never dropped. A workflow matters because most delays and mistakes happen in the messy handovers between people, and a clear one makes those joins smooth and easy to improve.
