Data Governance
Data governance is the set of rules, roles and habits a business uses to keep its data accurate, secure and used responsibly. It decides who is allowed to see and change each kind of information, where it is stored and how long it is kept, so the same customer record does not end up with three different phone numbers in three different places.
Think of it as the house rules for your filing cabinets: who holds the keys, where things get filed and who answers when something is wrong. Good data governance matters because decisions, invoices and customer promises are only as reliable as the data behind them, and clear ownership is what stops small errors turning into expensive ones.
